Well, there is South of France and then there’s south of India. While the former is all romantic and serendipitous, the latter is sheer poetry in the form of nature.  Either way, be it France or India, going down south is always a thumbs-up worthy idea. Since tis’ is the season, why not talk a bit about Coorg or Kodagu in Karnataka, a state in southern India. Also fondly called as Scotland of India, Coorg is perhaps one of the most popular hill-stations in India. Why does Coorg make for a fabulous travel destination? All you can see are lush evergreen Nilgiri Hills and absolutely gorgeous landscapes. These hills are evergreen and never go dry like the other mountain ranges in the Western Ghats. so it is a soothing for your eyes and a sheer pleasure for your soul and heart.  Chill out in your hotel or homestay or resort with a cuppa or perhaps a drink. Recharge your batteries by soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

We Indians are crazy about spices. And we have made sure that world over people get introduced to these spices. That said, if you have chosen Coorg as your next travel destination, you are sure to get a spicy treat. Coorg is known for spices and you can get a large range, from Clove to cardamom to nutmeg to black pepper at comparatively less rates than other parts of the country.  Additionally, this town is a paradise for Coffee lovers. You will see coffee plantations all around. This place is one of the leading producers of Coffee in the country. Arabica and Robusta are two main varieties abundantly available in the area. The aroma of coffee you get there is simply irresistible. So spices and Coffee, it cannot get any more quintessentially southern!

A Glimpse of Tibet

If you are looking to get a slice of Tibet in the heart of south India, then Coorg is the place. The top draw here is the Namdroling Monastery. You would be mesmerized with the tall statues of Padmasambhava, Amitayus and Buddha. It is an experience you can’t miss.  The serenity and peace you experience here is absolutely inexplicable. This monastery is located in Bylakuppe, one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India. If you are in Coorg, make sure you visit and also grab a bite of the various Tibetan delicacies. After some peace and calm, you might want to get more adventurous.

Brush With The Beast

If you are in the area, one of the things you should experience is bathing and feeding the elephants at Dubare Elephant camp. If you are lucky, you will  also get to see some baby elephants waddling around. Then you can also take a ride in the jungle located close by.  Being with these gentle giants will definitely be an experience of a lifetime. A visit to this part of the country is incomplete without a rendezvous with these elephants.

In addition to these, Dodabetta Peak, Raja’s Seat, Abbey Falls and ThalCauvery Temple are some more reasons you would want to make Coorg your next travel destination. Sheer natural beauty and serene locales, in a nutshell is what this place is all about. So if you are trying to zero in on a travel destination this season, make sure you put Coorg on your list of next travel destination.
