Avoriaz is the highest resort (1800m) in the Portes du Soleil ski area, which spans France and Switzerland and also includes other iconic resorts like Morzine and Les Gets.
It exists thanks to the vision of 1960 Olympic Downhill Champion Jean Vuarnet, who was raised in Morzine and always fantasized about creating a purpose-built ski resort on the slopes above his hometown.
The slopes are usually in terrific condition, the contemporary architecture blends brilliantly with the natural surroundings and the apres-ski is superb̶ if you’re tempted to try it for yourself, here are seven tips for an awesome Avoriaz ski holiday!
Table of Contents
1.Skiing & Snowboarding
Avoriaz includes pistes for novices, families, experts, and exploring the trees, while there are also five ungroomed snowcross runs that are monitored and avalanche controlled. It’s also a haven for snowboarders, particularly at the famous Avoriaz Burton Stash snowpark.
2.Ski hire & passes
The two main ski passes available here are the Avoriaz ski pass that offers access to 75km of pistes around the resort, or the Portes du Soleil pass, which includes the entire 650km of the wider ski area. Discounts are also often available for groups and families.
The apres-ski in Avoriaz is dynamic and diverse ̶ for a wild night you can try over 50 types of shots at Le Shooters, while Le Tavaillon is an English-style bar that’s brilliant for watching live sports with friends over a few beers.
Comfy accommodation in Avoriaz includes the likes of the Antares apartments in Les Crozats and Saskia Falaise with its sumptuous onsite restaurant. Book a skiing holiday in Avoriaz with Erna Low and choose from a wide range of chalets, hotels and apartments.
Indulging in some swimming, spa and sauna sessions between your skiing and snowboarding excursions helps you unwind and soothe those aching muscles. The Altiform Fitness Centre has hot tubs, saunas and various wellbeing classes, so it’s one of the best options.
If you have kids in tow but want a rare day alone on the slopes, the Avrizou Nursery caters for children aged 6 months to 5 years and operates between 830am and 530pm. This is a modern, secure, and safe facility that only employs fully trained and certified staff.
On the slopes, kids aged 3-16 adore the Village des Enfants, which teaches them to ski in supportive peer groups, while entertainment for youngsters off the slopes includes laser quest, tag archery, and the Aquariaz Waterpark, which features geysers, slides, a half-pipe for inflatables, lazy rivers and more.
Follow these superb seven tips and you’re sure to have an amazing holiday in Avoriaz, whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, a family, or with a group of friends.
Once you’ve tried a snowsports vacay in this wonderful part of the world, you won’t want to ski or snowboard anywhere else!
